| X-C Schooling Day Update | |
| Posted by Mary on Thu 18 May, 2006 | |
At the last X-C schooling day something happened that we wanted to bring to your all's attention.
A rider who had not registered at the table borrowed a pinny from a rider who had already registered. This person had planned 'just to walk around', but then had a fall that required medical attention. As innocently as it may have been meant, things like this put everyone is a very bad position. We had no record of who the hurt rider was, no signed release, and this was the only time our medical was needed all day.
We have binding agreements with the USEA and the Kentucky Horse Park to run these X-C Schooling Days according to the rules and guidelines and to meet all the insurance requirements. Situations like this put everyone in jeopardy of losing the privilege of having the KHP open to schooling, period. Some of you might remember that it was the threat of the park closing their doors to any schooling at all that prompted the beginning of the X-C Schooling Days, as we know them now.
What might not seem like a big deal at the time, could compromise everyone. Anyone caught deliberately breaking the rules could be asked not to ever come back. Please help us keep the Schooling Days going by not being the one to bend rules. Thanks!

Shame on anyone that takes advantage of the great opportunity we have to school (and let me add "on our own") at the Kentucky Horse Park. I have lived in many states and there are very few that offer a premier facility, let alone allow any and all the chance to come and school - not only once or twice throughout the season - but numerous times, with groomed manicured fences and medical staff on hand. I hope that one person does not take away this wonderful opportunity from the rest of us who look forward to all of these schooling days.

I second the well-stated prior comments of N. Mazzoni, but a bit stronger, as I too would hate to lose the wonderful opportunity we have to school at the KHP because of someone who thinks the rules don't apply to them. I hope this does not cause the park to cancel the rest of the schooling days. Those who call themselves 'horse people' but yet act so irresponsibly and do not recognize the liability of such actions are not professional horsepeople and are a danger to the rest of us. I no more want them on a cross country course with me than I want a drunk driver on the road with me. I don't know what the reasons were for this incident and it doesn't matter, because it clearly was a conscious decision made by someone, and there is no excuse. Reply to this comment
